PEDS to lead first of 2 Buckhead WALKtober fun walks Saturday, Oct. 1

Saturday marks the 1st day of October and Oct. 1 marks the kickoff of Atlanta’s first annual WALKtober—four weeks of fun on foot. That first WALKtober event begins right here in south Buckhead on the Northside BeltLine Trail.

The series of WALKtober events Oct. 1-31 is an initiative of PEDS, the only organization dedicated solely to making communities in Georgia safe and accessible to all pedestrians. PEDS is leading the fun walks and encouraging people in the community to participate in the free events.

The first walk in Buckhead begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, meeting at the BeltLine trailhead across from Colonial Homes Drive and following the Northside BeltLine Trail through the Tanyard Creek Urban Forest, the Bobby Jones Golf Course and across a fun wooden bridge.

“We’ll walk two miles, and for anyone who’s interested,

follow up at CamiCakes for a cupcake or ice cream,” said PEDS founder and executive Sally Flocks.

Buckhead has two of the walks scheduled for October. The second is a PATH400 Walk on Thursday Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. That walk will start at the corner of Phipps Boulevard and Alexander Road, behind Phipps Plaza mall.
