APD Community Partners plan public mix & mingle event at Zone 2 Sept. 24
The event will be at the Zone 2 Precinct offices on Maple Drive (close to the PetSmart store on Peachtree near Piedmont). It will be held in the parking lot behind the Zone 2 Precinct offices weather permitting and is planned to be purely a social event, not so discuss individual incident concerns.
“We hope this social event will help us realize how much we have in common and build partnerships for the future,” Brad Woodward, director of security at Lenox Square said during the Neighborhood Planning Unit-B board meeting Sept. 6.
So the public is invited to come out and share a meal with an officer and meet the men and women who patrol their police beat, along with representatives from special units such as APEX (Atlanta Proactive Enforcement and Interdiction), motors, mounted horse patrol, crime analysts, detectives and more working at the precinct.
“We want our officers to know how much we appreciate the job they do and for them to meet some of the neighbors and some of the leaders in the community they serve,” Woodward explained.
Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to Phyllis Sawyer at the Community Services Division, Prsawyer@atlantaga.gov, to assist with the food count. The food will be coordinated by one of the APD Community Partners, David Jaffer.
The event is scheduled around the time of day when day-shift police officers are leaving work for home and night-shift officers are reporting for work to provide the best opportunity to meet the most officers. APD Chief Turner reportedly also plans to attend.
