Buckhead Coalition offering free ‘dunks’ to eradicate mosquito larvae in ponds

Responding to reports that the Florida Zika virus is migrating northward, the Buckhead Coalition is offering a defense to residents and businesses that have stagnant outdoor ponds within the 28-square-mile boundary of Buckhead, offering free mosquito “dunk” pellets to eradicate the mosquito larvae.

Owners or renters may buy the pellets at the Buckhead Home Depot store, and get reimbursed for the cost by the Buckhead Coalition.  Each pellet covers approximately 100 square feet for 30 days, and costs $1.60, with tax (in packs of six). To get reimbursed, mail the receipt to the Coalition office at 3340 Peachtree, Suite 560, 30326.

This Coalition program expires September 30th and is limited to one pack of six pellets per address.

“The mission of the Coalition is to nurture the quality of life of those who live, visit, work, or play in Buckhead, and this civic service initiative certainly fits the definition,” reports Coalition President Sam Massell.

“We are now in the peak mosquito season through October,” he added. “Thus, interested parties should act quickly.”

“Dunks” are not recommended for active swimming pools that have chlorine and pH-balancing acids that already thwart mosquito larvae and could cause eye irritation.
