Woman alleges attack by Uber driver who picked her up at West Village bar
Atlanta police are investigating a woman’s allegation that an Uber driver picked her up from a Buckhead bar early Saturday morning and, instead of taking her to her home, sexually assaulted her at Chastain Park.
About 2:30 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a call about an alleged sexual assault in the 200 block of West Wieuca Road, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Atlanta police spokesman Donald Hannah said.
The woman reportedly told police she was with a group of friends at the Park Bench bar in Buckhead’s West Village when she decided to call Uber to get a ride home. The woman alleges that instead of taking her home, the driver drove her to Chastain Park.
“The victim stated that after a short while, the driver sexually assaulted her,” officer Hannah said. “He then pushed her out of the vehicle at the Galloway School after she scratched him.”
The woman was taken to a local hospital, where police conducted a follow-up investigation.
Atlanta police officers have not said whether the Uber driver has been arrested or brought in for questioning. “The investigation is currently underway,” Hannah said, assuring that further reports will be made public as more information becomes available.
Uber spokeswoman Susan Hendrick said the company also is investigating the matter. “We are trying to track down the facts,” she said. Read the AJC article here.
