Improv comedy club finds new home in Tower Walk Buckhead
At the end of 2015, landlord Edens shut down the original Improv along with several bars and restaurants in the East Andrews Entertainment District. Stephen de Haan, who ran East Andrews, found the slightly larger space at Tower Walk Buckhead.
The club will seat 350, up from about 300 in the old space. Tower Walk, off Piedmont Road, is home to RuSan’s Sushi, Twin Peaks sports pub, Farm Burger and AMC Dine In Theatres. The new Improv will be upstairs from the theater.
De Haan had said he was seeking space that was near major hotels and highways. This particular locale is in walking distance of several major hotels such as the InterContinental and the Grand Hyatt. “I’m excited by the accessibility to (Ga.) 400,” he said, “and parking is improved.”
He plans a more comfortable seating layout with better sight lines, elevated areas and banquettes. He also wants better acoustics. “We are investing heavily in the audio,” he said.
Given the build-out schedule, de Haan hopes to have the Improv open in the winter of 2017.
