City votes $75,000 to lure Global Payments to move to Buckhead
Global Payments reportedly is in talks with Tishman Speyer to lease up to three floors at the under construction Three Alliance tower. But BuckheadView overheard a conversation Wednesday that indicated the lease likely would be for 100,000 square feet of space.
Global Payments, a Fortune 1000 payment processor, will invest $18 million to move its corporate headquarters from Sandy Springs, bringing 150 high-paying jobs to Buckhead, according to a filing with Invest Atlanta, the city’s economic development arm.
Global Payments’ recent acquisition of Heartland Payments prompted the search for a new headquarters space. And while its lease at 10 Glenlake runs through 2021, the firm simply ran out of space there, according to Bisnow commercial real estate news service.
But instead of vacating the Central Perimeter space, the move represents a compromise, where Global Payments can apparently move its C-suite staff as well as high-paying positions (average annual salaries of the jobs headed to Buckhead reportedly top $200,000) out of Perimeter and into the city, where many of the metro area’s top financial tech companies have been moving, Bisnow reports.
It’s unclear how much space Global Payments will maintain at 10 Glenlake, but it currently leases 170,000 square feet. Sources say Global Payments is in talks to re-lease its 10 Glenlake space, where it will keep much of its back office operations.
