Body found near train tracks in S. Buckhead June 29 being investigated
The incident was reported Tuesday, July 5, by 11Alive TV news, almost a week after the body was first discovered and CBS46 TV briefly reported on the discovery. But there was still no identification of the dead man and no determination of the cause of death.
Atlanta Police had turned over the investigation to Norfolk Southern (railroad) Police. According to their spokesperson, a crew on a 6:40 a.m. train spotted the body and called police.
The “investigation tentatively concluded that the individual may have been struck by a northbound train,” Richard Harris, Dir. of Corporate Communications told 11Alive News.
In an effort to verify and determine which train may have struck the individual, Norfolk is checking the previous three trains that came through the area at 12:25, 5;21 and 5:57. Harris said the investigation continues.
The Fulton County medical examiner’s office said they could not determine the cause of death. It is still unclear if the person was dead before being hit by the train, according to the 11Alive report.
