July 4 Road Race, big Lenox event create Buckhead road closings

The two major Fourth of July events in Buckhead, the AJC Peachtree Road Race and the Legendary Fourth of July event at Lenox Square mall, draw thousands of attendees and come with road closures.

For both of the events, it is recommended to use MARTA, which has stations on Peachtree Road and next to Lenox Square mall. For these events, MARTA adds extra trains and personnel to ensure a pleasant experience.

Parking is not available in the start area for the Peachtree Road Race, so it is advised that runners take MARTA. MARTA will  beginning running at 5 a.m. on July 4. The Lenox station off of the gold line is the closest station to the start line.

Race participants are discouraged from using the Buckhead station as it is not set up to handle the large numbers of people that will be arriving in the start area. Participants using the Buckhead station will also have a more difficult time getting to the start area once the wheelchair and footracers begin.

In the start area, Peachtree Road will close from Peachtree-Dunwoody / Roxboro to Piedmont Road beginning at 5:30 a.m. on the morning of July 4. The remainder of the course will be closed on a rolling basis beginning at 6:00 a.m. The entire course will be closed by 6:30 a.m. Go here for a complete list of road closures.
