July 4 Road Race, big Lenox event create Buckhead road closings
For both of the events, it is recommended to use MARTA, which has stations on Peachtree Road and next to Lenox Square mall. For these events, MARTA adds extra trains and personnel to ensure a pleasant experience.
Parking is not available in the start area for the Peachtree Road Race, so it is advised that runners take MARTA. MARTA will beginning running at 5 a.m. on July 4. The Lenox station off of the gold line is the closest station to the start line.
Race participants are discouraged from using the Buckhead station as it is not set up to handle the large numbers of people that will be arriving in the start area. Participants using the Buckhead station will also have a more difficult time getting to the start area once the wheelchair and footracers begin.
In the start area, Peachtree Road will close from Peachtree-Dunwoody / Roxboro to Piedmont Road beginning at 5:30 a.m. on the morning of July 4. The remainder of the course will be closed on a rolling basis beginning at 6:00 a.m. The entire course will be closed by 6:30 a.m. Go here for a complete list of road closures.
The Peachtree Road Race begins the holiday in Buckhead on July 4 and the Legendary Fourth of July at Lenox Square ends the day of activities.
For over half a century, Lenox Square has celebrated Independence Day in grand tradition with patriotic activities for the entire family. At over 10,000 fireworks, the show has grown to become one of the largest fireworks displays in the Southeast.
This year’s activities will include a 15-minute fireworks show, musical entertainment and food concessions. Everyone is invited to experience the city’s time-honored tradition and celebrate as Lenox Square lights up the sky on the Fourth of July!
Beginning at 6 p.m., a diverse lineup of live musical entertainment will kick-off at the main stage including the following: 6 p.m. – Jimmy Buffet tribute band Sons of Sailors opens the show; 7:45 p.m. – Headliner Party On The Moon, a party band playing the latest in an eclectic set of current dance. Then the fireworks at about 9:30 p.m.
Again this year, paid parking for $10 will be in place at Lenox Square. In addition, for $20, patrons can access VIP Parking, which is in immediate proximity of the festivities, and offers priority event departure assisted by the Atlanta Police Department. Simon Rewards Platinum Members will receive free VIP Parking for the evening. A portion of the proceeds from parking will go to the Simon Youth Foundation.
Lenox Square shops and Lenox Fashion Café dining options are open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. The following Lenox dining options will remain open past 6 p.m.: Checkers – 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., Great Wraps – 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., Wokdragon – 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., The Cheesecake Factory 11 a.m. – 11 p.m., Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar 11 a.m. – 10 p.m., True Food Kitchen 11 a.m. – 10 p.m., Bantam + Biddy 8 a.m. – 9 p.m., Sprinkles Cupcakes (Bakery 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Ice Cream noon-11 p.m.), Corner Bakery from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Panera Bread 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
