2 favorite Buckhead summer traditions, on 1 day, coming up July 4

July 4th is just around the corner and that means two of Buckhead’s favorite summer traditions—the Peachtree Road Race and Lenox Square’s Legendary Fourth of July star-spangled evening of performances and fireworks—is soon upon us.

For the faithful runners, the Peachtree Road Race not only starts the day very early but may well be the highlight as they join their tens of thousands of friends and comrades filling Peachtree Road from Lenox Square to I-85 through Buckhead.

And, those runners will draw massive crowds of encouraging well-wishers along the route, cheering on every runner and walker to their personal victory—finishing the race.

But as 6 p.m. rolls around, the focus returns to Lenox Square mall, as it has for more than a half century, where tens of thousands fill the parking lot for an evening of patriotism and entertainment for the entire family.

At over 10,000 fireworks, the show has grown in scope and scale to become one of the largest fireworks displays in the Southeast. This year’s activities will include a 15-minute fireworks show, musical entertainment and food concessions.

Here is the schedule for that Monday, July 4 evening:

Musical entertainment begins at 6 p.m. with the Jimmy Buffet tribute band Sons of Sailors opening the show.

At 7:45 p.m., show headliners, Party on the Moon, Atlanta’s favorite party band, takes the stage.

Fireworks scheduled to begin at approximately 9:40 p.m.

(Select mall restaurants will remain open after 6 p.m. for guests to enjoy during the event and will be announced closer to the event date.)
