Buckhead Recycles program hits milestone of 100 tons collected in April

Buckhead’s own community-wide commercial recycling program, Buckhead Recycles, reached a milestone in April: the first time that the total tonnage of recycling collected from buildings in the program has topped 100 tons collected in a month.

Increased attention to the performance of each building’s recycling program, combined with a hands-on approach by the Buckhead Recycles team to address each building’s specific needs, are reasons for the success of the Buckhead Recycles program, according to Livable Buckhead.

Another integral component includes the partnership and cooperation of the management teams at each building. Livable Buckhead manages implementation of the program and provides hands-on support for every participating building.

“In 2016 we still hope to expand the program to the rest of the large, Class-A office buildings in Buckhead,” Livable Buckhead said in its monthly newsletter. “We will also continue to address contamination, which is the presence of non-recyclable items in the recyclables.” The sorting, removing and sending such material to landfills places a major cost burden on recyclers.

Buckhead Recycles educates properties, custodial teams and tenants about the core principles of proper office recycling, and offers a range of tools to help the management teams and tenants of each building to reduce contamination.

“Our vision is to have every office building in our community participating in one unified recycling program, creating efficiencies in both collection and costs,” Livable Buckhead stated. To learn more about Buckhead Recycles, click here.
