2 carjackings: Victims include 70-year-old at Lenox, couple at OK Cafe

A 70-year-old Buckhead grandmother was carjacked at Lenox Square mall this week while the woman’s two granddaughters were in the car. Meanwhile, a couple was carjacked Monday night in the parking lot at OK Café at West Paces Ferry Road and Northside Parkway in Buckhead.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Anita Thomas was approached by a man with a gun in the Neiman Marcus parking deck at Lenox Square. Thomas gave the man her keys and her phone.

“When we got out of the car and I saw him approach me with the gun, I told the girls to run,” said Thomas, as reported to Fox5 Atlanta. “It was my granddaughters that I was terrified for.”

Thomas’ car, a blue 2015 Mercedes Benz, was found later in southwest Atlanta.

In the OK Cafe incident, a carjacker approached a couple in the restaurant’s parking lot and demanded their keys at gunpoint. Police tracked the car, but the suspect got into another vehicle and escaped.

Police don’t know if the two carjacking incidents are related.

Atlanta police report they are deploying more officers inside some of Buckhead’s more popular shopping areas such as Lenox Square. APD’s Zone 2 has a mini precinct office at Lenox Square mall.
