Public meeting June 3 on transfer of Bobby Jones Golf Course to state

Mayor Kasim Reed and Dist. 8 Atlanta City Councilwoman Yolanda Adrean will meet with Buckhead residents and Bobby Jones Golf Course stakeholders Friday, June 3, at 3 p.m. in the Gymnasium of E. Rivers Elementary School to discuss the proposed transfer of the golf course and Bitsy Grant Tennis Center property to the state of Georgia.

“As many of you know, legislation has been introduced that proposes to transfer the Bobby Jones golf course and clubhouse to the state,” Adrean wrote constituents in an email.

“Since this is such an important issue and would have a direct impact on District 8, I have asked the Mayor and representatives from the state to hold a public information meeting for people to learn more about the proposed transfer and related changes to the golf course and clubhouse,” Adrean wrote.

However, Adrean informed BuckheadView on Tuesday of this week that as of that time, “I am only aware of a commitment from the Mayor.” As of Thursday, Adrean had not responded to BuckheadView confirming attendance at the meeting by any state officials.

There reportedly will be ample time for comments about the proposed land transfer from those attending the meeting, in addition to an explanation of the deal and process.

E Rivers Elementary School is located at 8 Peachtree Battle Avenue at the corner of Peachtree Road and Peachtree Battle Avenue. The meeting location was changed from the initial announcement it would be held at the Bobby Jones clubhouse.
