Ga. Power/Coalition program prepares Buckhead trees for bad weather

The Buckhead Community escaped major electrical outages and worse damage to properties and individuals during recent wind and rain storms partially due to a partnership of Georgia Power Co. with the area’s civic associations.

Confronted with the tremendous amount of rain the year before, the Buckhead Coalition anticipated loose root risks and persuaded the utility company to undertake a schedule of advanced pruning and tree removal.

The program was facilitated by a polling of residents by heads of Buckhead’s 45 neighborhoods for specific for locations of troubled trees. The Coalition then digitally mapped each coördinate to facilitate work crew efficiency.

The benefit to the community was Georgia Power attention to 65 individual trees, with no cost to Buckhead residents or the Buckhead Coalition.
