Atlanta wins 2019 Super Bowl; could be economic high for Buckhead
Atlanta’s bid to host the event in the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium beat out bids from Tampa and Miami, Florida. But Miami will get the opportunity to host the Super Bowl in 2020.
It will be the third Super Bowl held in Atlanta and the first since Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000. The big game is expected to bring a $400 million economic impact with it to Atlanta and much of that will likely be spent in Buckhead’s hotels, restaurants and retail stores..
“It’s a wonderful day for our city and franchise and I know the people of Atlanta and all of Georgia will deliver a spectacular Super Bowl celebration in 2019,” Atlanta Falcon owner Arthur M. Blank said, in a statement.
“Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be an outstanding venue for the game….Atlanta has truly transformed since it last hosted the Super Bowl in 2000 and I’m grateful to the NFL and team owners for this very special opportunity,” Blank added.
