Info on MARTA budget proposals, route changes available at headquarters

MARTA has announced it will hold a public hearing on the fiscal 2017 operating and capital budgets and proposed bus service modifications Thursday, May 19 at 7 p.m., but nowhere convenient to Buckhead residents. It is being held in Decatur.

For interested Buckhead residents,  copies of the operating and capital budgets will also be available for public viewing at MARTA’s headquarters in the office of external affairs at 2424 Piedmont Road, Buckhead, during regular business hours, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The fiscal 2017 proposed net operating expense budget is $453.3 million, and the proposed capital expense budget is $439 million, including $146.9 million for debt service and $292.1 million for the capital improvement program.

The MARTA board will vote to adopt the final budget June 2. The 2017 fiscal year begins July 1. Highlights of the proposed budget include:

  • no fare increase
  • complete implementation of Clayton County bus service
  • WiFi on buses and in rail stations
  • the purchase of new buses

None of the proposed bus service modifications affect Buckhead routes.
