Serenbe Playhouse will bring its stage to Buckhead furniture store

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, the upscale home furnishings store in Buckhead, becomes a stage on May 19th, when Serenbe Playhouse brings Buyer & Cellar to the store for a three-show run.

The comedy, the first in a new Serenbe series called “Intimate Indoors,” is a one-man comedy that tells what it would be like working for Barbra Streisand in her basement mall.

“Staying true to our mission of being site specific, we are bringing The Playhouse into the city,” says Brian Clowdus, Serenbe Playhouse Founder & Artistic/Executive Director. “Titles that would never make sense outside but still flourish in an intimate indoor setting is what this new series it all about. 75 percent of our audience resides in metro Atlanta, and we’re excited to bring what we do on an intimate scale into the City! We foresee this also tapping into a new audience demographic with strategic partners like Mitch Gold + Bob Williams and Atlanta Contemporary proving that theater can happen anywhere and that it truly is for everyone.”

Nick Cearley, star of Buyer & Cellar, said: “Bringing this story to a site specific location like a furniture store in Atlanta is so exciting.  The world of the play is so fantastical, I can only imagine the physical surroundings of the store will serve to enhance the hilarious story in ways never brought to the piece before.

“Following through with Serenbe’s mission statement, I think this play will take it to the next level by putting a bold twist on reinventing a ‘new classic’ play that connects the artistic world to the audience in an even more intimate and creative way. I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of Serenbe’s first indoor site specific show.”

The play was an instant success when in premiered in 2013 at an Off Broadway theater, where the spare set left the mall mostly to audience members’ imagination.

“Buyer & Cellar” will be performed at 8 p.m. May 19 – 21. For information or to purchase tickets ($20 – $25) go to
