The local initiative is part of a national program, identified as “Horizons”, which is planned to serve in its first year around 45 students who attend the Garden Hills Elementary School, according to Coalition President Sam Massell.

Horizons is chaired locally by John Brock, CEO of Coca-Cola Enterprises, and is served by Post Properties’ CEO Dave Stockert, both of which are directors of the Buckhead Coalition.

The Coalition and Buckhead Rotary Club are sponsoring and financially supporting the first year of this pilot project, which has a $100,000 annual budget.

Massell told BuckheadView, as is generally known, a number of children who don’t have support from home equal to that of their classmates, get further and further behind—particularly during summer off time from school.

Massell stated, “Our organization of business leaders believes strongly in boosting local educational levels.  We are demonstrating this additionally this year by dividing a share of ad revenue from our Buckhead Guidebook sales to Buckhead’s six individual public school foundations.”
