BCID gets $112,000 ARC grant to update Livable Centers Initiative plan

The Buckhead Community Improvement District (BCID) today announced it has been awarded an Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) grant for $112,000 to update its 15-year-old Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) plan.bcidlogo

The ARC grant will allow BCID to update the 15-year community planning study in order to address the generational divide around the future vision of Buckhead and the transportation capacity needed to better connect residents to jobs and amenities amid intense development, according to BCID Executive Director Jim Durrett.

BCID will hire consultants to gather extensive public input to significantly update the plan.

“Grants and community planning studies help us to not only properly plan, but also formulate the appropriate communication strategies to share with stakeholders, businesses and residents of Buckhead,” said Durrett.

“Updating the LCI will have a high degree of public participation so everyone understands the opportunities we have to make changes that can improve the quality of this important place,” he added.

ARC awarded LCI study grants to nine metro Atlanta communities to help develop plans that support the creation of linked places. The program is funded with federal transportation tax dollars, which provides 80 percent of funding, with recipients making a 20 percent match.

The ARC awarded $800,000 in LCI study grants to nine metro Atlanta communities and $12 million in transportation funding to 11 other communities that have previously implemented completed LCI studies.

Since LCI began in 2000, 112 communities have received more than $197 million in planning and implementation grants.

LCI communities cover less than four percent of the region’s land area, but contain seven percent of its recent residential development, 29 percent of its recent commercial development and 69 percent of its recent office development.
