Falcons owner Arthur Blank discloses he has curable prostate cancer
Blank said that after multiple visits with different cancer specialists and hospitals around the country, he has opted to have surgery later this month. The doctors believe the cancer is contained and “removing the cancer physically is the best way to treat it,” he added.
“For my age, I’m in fairly good shape,” Blank said. “So on the positive side, I’m a good candidate for surgery.”
He expects it will take a couple of weeks to recover from surgery, so it would be equivalent to him taking a vacation. No other additional treatment–radiation or chemotherapy or hormonal therapy—is planned as of now.
Blank said he is looking forward to putting this behind him and continuing his active lifestyle. It also will not impact his plans to marry his fiancée, Angela Macuga, later this year, he told the ABC.
Coincidentally, Blank had decided last year, many months before he found out he had prostate cancer, to step back from running his day-to-day business interests. He recently named Steve Cannon, the former president of Mercedes-Benz USA, to be CEO of the AMB Group LLC. Cannon started working with Blank a week ago.
“I have got a lot of comfort knowing all the businesses are being well run,” Blank said, adding that he is looking forward to continued involvement in all his businesses and philanthropic endeavors “for years to come.”
Blank, who would have preferred to have kept the information private, said that wasn’t realistic. So he decided it would be best for him to tell his business associates, friends and the general public about the cancer so they could have the accurate information.
