Phase 1 of new Chastain Park playground ready to open for children
The construction fences were ready to come down Jan. 15, but there was a delay. “We had a rain delay and were not able to do the final inspection on Friday to receive the certificate of occupancy from the City,” Chastain Park Conservancy Executive Director Rosa McHugh told BuckheadVew. “We are working diligently with the all the parties to get the fences down as soon as possible. As soon as we receive the certificate of occupancy from the city the playground will be open for business,” she added. The playground is at West Wieuca Road and Dudley Lane in north Buckhead.
The Chastain Park Conservancy, along with sponsorship help from Team Martina, Martina McBride’s global charity team, raised funds for this project with a special sound check event for fans before the popular singer’s concert in Atlanta.
A stone and wood pavilion, a tree house, and side-by-side racing slides are among the highlights of the new playground. Children can enjoy an outdoor piano, drums, and chimes. There are boulders, tree stumps and a wall for climbing, as well as paved, meandering paths for walking, running, or tricycling.
On Wednesday evening, March 16, the Chastain Park Conservancy will thank its donors, supporters, and future patrons by offering a preview of the playground. Then on Saturday afternoon, March 19, the Conservancy will host the official ribbon cutting ceremony of the playground’s first and largest phase. “The official ribbon cutting celebration will remain scheduled for Saturday, March 19 at 2 p.m.,” McHugh told BuckheadView.
