8 convicted for 2013 Mayors Jewelry Store smash-and-grab robbery

Eight members of a Detroit-based robbery crew that carried out the June 2013 smash-and-grab robbery of the Lenox Square Mayors Jewelry Store were finally sentenced to prison this week.

The crew, which was led by now-deceased Kenneth Thomas, included Damien Gayles, Kamauri Kennedy, Corey Barrows, Allen Adams, Lorenzo Terry, Anthony Hill, Jason Arnold and Jasmine Dozier.

The nine men traveled from Detroit to Atlanta to conduct the robbery using sledgehammers at Mayors, which has locations in several states and offers a wide selection of Rolex watches.

On June 21, 2013, Burrows, Adams, Terry, Hill, and Arnold entered the Mayors store in Lenox Square Mall during business hours. Burrows and Adams concealed sledgehammers in their pants, and then used the sledgehammers to smash open the store’s glass display cases.

Hill, Terry, Adams, and Arnold grabbed and stole 19 Rolex watches valued between $25,000 and $65,000 each from the smashed display cases and fled the store with the stolen merchandise. The total retail value of the stolen property was approximately $637,600.

According to court testimony, the plan was to steal the watches and return to Detroit where they could be sold to jewelry dealers trough unreported cash transactions. Those “fences” would then sell the stolen watches on the black market, to buyers in the U.S. and overseas.
