In his new role, Smythe will be responsible for overseeing the Foundation’s fundraising program and for reaching new audiences within the United States. EARTH University Foundation has offices in Buckhead at 3525 Piedmont Road NE, 8 Piedmont Center Suite 520.

“Jeff brings strong managerial and development experience to the Foundation, as well as a real passion for the work of EARTH,” said Hoek. “His proficiency in Spanish, experience living in Costa Rica, and his strong connections in the Atlanta community also uniquely qualify him for this role.”

“Since my time in Costa Rica with WorldTeach two decades ago, I have had my eye on EARTH. More than a career move, this is a calling. I look forward to working with our staff to help more individuals, corporations and foundations throughout the United States become part of the transformative work happening at EARTH,” said Smythe.

Before joining EARTH, Smythe had been the executive director of Meals on Wheels Atlanta for over a decade. Smythe also has a background in education, having served as a professor at University of Phoenix, Axix College in Atlanta, and as an educator and community builder for Harvard Institute for International Development (WorldTeach) in Costa Rica.

He has a BA from the University of Colorado, Boulder and his MPA in Nonprofit Management from Georgia State University.

EARTH University Foundation was formed to support the educational vision of Costa Rica-based EARTH University through generous gifts from the global community and other programs and initiatives. The Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity headquartered in Buckhead.

Tax-deductible contributions through EARTH University Foundation will help to provide a quality agricultural and entrepreneurial education to future leaders who would not otherwise have such opportunities.
