2 Atlanta Commercial Realtors’ events raise funds to fight cancer
The Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors hosted its 10th annual October Brokerfest Oct. 8 at American Spirit Works in Buckhead and raised $40,000 for the Dana Smith Cancer Assistance Fund and the ABR Educational Foundation.
Over 350 REALTORS® and guests participated in the evening of networking with the “Who’s Who” of local Commercial Board members and industry leaders.
The Dana G. Smith Assistance Fund was founded with seed money from the Atlanta Commercial Board in 2006 in honor of Dana Smith, a young, successful commercial real estate broker who lost her life to cancer at the age of 32. The Dana G. Smith Cancer Assistance Fund is administered through Piedmont Hospital and has helped hundreds of patients since its inception.
ACBR Brokerfest chairman, Ryan Hoyt stated, “The members of the Atlanta Commercial Board are driven to raise funds to honor the life of Dana Smith through the DGS Fund and to keep her vision of helping others while they are battling cancer.”
Hoyt added, “The Educational Foundation is a vital part of our organization and the proceeds will go towards education for our members within the real estate industry.”
Meanwhile, on Sept. 18, the 26th annual Young Council of Realtors Charity Golf Tournament was held at Chastain Park Golf Course, with over 100 Realtors and guests participating, and raised $22,000 for the Carter Martin Cancer Research Fund.
Over the past 10 years the Young Council has raised over $250,000 dollars through the annual tournament, to benefit the fund and children’s cancer research. This fund was created in honor of Carter Martin, the 7 year old son of an ACBR member who passed away from Ewing’s Sarcoma Cancer, a rare blood disease in 2003.
Due to the fundraising from the Young Council, the AFLAC Cancer Center dedicated two rooms in the Young Council’s honor, at both the Egleston and Scottish Rite Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta campuses.
The Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors (ACBR) is the voice of commercial real estate in Metro Atlanta and has been an instrumental factor in the growth of real estate in the state of Georgia for more than a century.
The Young Council of Realtors is a committee of the Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors, established to provide networking and educational opportunities to Board members who are new in the real estate business.
