Mountain Way Common pedestrian bridge was installed July 9

The pedestrian bridge was installed at Mountain Way Common Thursday, July 9, right after noon, with the installation taking about 11 minutes to complete. The bridge is an asset to the park and the North Buckhead neighborhood, North Buckhead Civic Association President Gordon Certain reports.

Certain has provided a link to a video of the installation on YouTube. One version (6 1/2 minutes) omits some of the manual labor fastening of the bridge to the pier. Another version shows all the action, compressed to just 60 seconds—11 times faster than real life. Here are the two links:

The necessary work to construct boardwalk ramps leading to and from the bridge will be started on Monday and is scheduled to take about two weeks. The bridge may be usable around the end of July.

The text posted on YouTube with the videos is not visible without clicking the SHOW MORE button. It says:

“The Friends of Mountain Way Common have worked for years to see this key park infrastructure funded, built and installed. Boardwalks leading to the bridge are the next priority.

“Ribbon Cutting Ceremony: 10AM, September 2, 2015, with MWC Bridge Social 6-8 p.m. that evening.

“Key funding was provided by a major Park Pride grant, many local contributors, and Livable Buckhead. Important support was also provided by the Georgia Department of Transportation, Atlanta City Councilmember Howard Shook, and the City of Atlanta Parks and Recreation Department.”
