Buckhead’s Baton Bob street performer to wed gay partner tonight

Buckhead’s own resident street performer Baton Bob is getting married tonight at Piedmont Park (should have been Loudermilk Park) following the U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriages today.

It certainly won’t be the first time Baton Bob has worn a wedding dress, but this time he’ll be saying “I do” to a union with his partner, Atlanta chef Gary Bender and the city is invited to the nuptials.

“Tonight’s ceremony was planned months before today’s Supreme Court ruling was even a possibility,” said Baton Bob (real name Bob Jamerson). “The timing is an amazing coincidence.”

Following the ceremony, the public is invited to celebrate the couple at a costume ball at Park Tavern at 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 and must be bought in advance here.

“After we exchange vows, we want to spread the love with my fans,” said Baton Bob. “The celebratory costume ball is benefiting my favorite charities – American Diabetes Association and Project Open Hands. So, wear your best peacock costume (think: feathers, greens & blues) and watch Gary and I have our first dance!”

Attendees can bid on one of the wedding dresses that Baton Bob will be wearing, with all proceeds going to the two charities. Tickets include two drinks, peacock cupcakes and ice cream.
