Postscript: If you live along the event route, you can help make the Midnight Pajama Jog a magical experience. Please consider putting out your holiday lights or electric luminaries to add to the light-hearted atmosphere for this June 6th event.
Food Truckin’ Wednesdays Too
The Mountain Way Common board also is sponsoring a “Food Truckin’ Wednesdays” event every Wednesday night during the summer from 6-9 p.m. at the Mountain Way Common park location, the intersection of North Ivy Road and Mountain Way. The line-up of food trucks changes every week and the board wants to invite all the neighbors and the general public to join in the fun.
Blue Heron Nature Preserve plant sale
Also on Saturday, June 6, in North Buckhead, join the Blue Heron Nature Preserve for its first ever milkweed plant sale from 10 a.m.- 12 noon—featuring Georgia native plants and seeds for sale from Rock Spring Farm, baked goodies from Pine Tree Garden Club and shade grown coffee provided by Atlanta Audubon.
Also, the art gallery will be open featuring the Nature Preserve’s new summer photography exhibit with work by Jack Lawling, Denise Martin and Sherry Rosen. There will also be art note cards for sale by Jack, Sherry and Helen Kirch, plus jewelry by artist in residence Sally Eppstein.
Back to the Hooch River Race & Festival
This is not exactly in Buckhead, but it is a cool annual event on our “River of Life”. As many as 420 paddlers will paddle for first place in the 13th Annual Back to the Chattahoochee River Race & Festival on June 13—in kayaks, canoes and stand-up paddle boards.
Racers of varying ages and skill level will vie for prizes and bragging rights along an 8-mile course, which features scenic Class I-II rapids. Competitors cross the finish line at Riverside Park in Roswell, the site of a free, family-friendly festival that attracts thousands of people year after year.
The event is hosted by Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (CRK) in partnership with the National Park Service and the city of Roswell.
The race launches at 9 a.m. from Garrard Landing on Holcomb Bridge Road, and the festival kicks off at 10 a.m. and lasts to 3 p.m. with MCs from local radio station 97.1
River Festival goers can enjoy community vendors, including environmental exhibitors and outfitters, throughout Riverside Park. REI’s outdoor climbing wall will return to the festival along with other children’s activities.
For more information, visit www.chattahoochee.org/river-race-festival.php. Advanced registration is available through June 9 for the fee of $50 for solo boats and $70 for tandem boats.
