Council approves $250 million infrastructure bond project list

The Atlanta City Council unanimously approved Monday the list of projects the Department of Public Works plans to undertake with funding from a $250 million infrastructure bond approved by voters in March.

Council members voted unanimously to authorize using the bond proceeds for a combination of citywide projects and local projects inside each council district.

The citywide list includes major improvements to 16 streets and six bridges across the city, resurfacing of dozens of roads, new traffic warning signals at more than 40 schools and improvements to traffic lights and traffic signal synchronization on dozens of city streets.

Also on the citywide list are improvements to public facilities, including the M.L. King Natatorium and a video integration center run by the Atlanta Policed Department. The bond also will fund a public arts program.

Each of the city’s 12 council districts will receive $5.6 million for local transportation and public facility projects.

The council member representing each district will work with the Public Works Department to decide how to allocate those funds, based in part on public input.
