Concorde concierge named Walden Security officer of year

Teddy Beckles didn’t grow up in a building with a doorman in New York, but, his grandmother had a doorman in her building. The first chance he got to be one, he immediately took the job.

“It was one of my first jobs in security and it was a perfect fit for me,” remembered Beckles. “I learned the basics of building security, but also how to assist in the daily lives of residents. I loved

it.”

Twenty years later, Beckles has swapped his Manhattan work address for a Buckhead zip code.

As the Walden Security account manager for The Concorde 31-story condo building, 2870 Pharr Court South, Beckles manages a staff of four officers who provide 24/7 concierge services to the more than 500 residents of the high-rise.

Most days are kept busy welcoming visitors and getting contractors to the right floor. But last year an older resident in the building called Beckles to report her husband was unresponsive on the bathroom floor. After calling 911, Beckles raced to the unit and began CPR.

He continued CPR until EMT’s arrived and stabilized the man for transport to the hospital. Paramedics stated that the resident was alive purely due to Beckles’ efforts prior to their arrival.

That day the ordinary became extraordinary. For that action and a cumulative career of exemplary service, Beckles was awarded Walden Security’s Officer of the Year. The award was presented in March by Walden Security President and Founder Michael Walden.

“Of course we believe this honor is well-deserved,” said Association Manager Paige Perkins of Community Management Associates. “The fact that Teddy actually saved someone’s life last year is extraordinary and a testament to the training that Walden provides.

“But, beyond that, he performs life-saving and affirming acts every day that don’t include CPR or heroic methods…just quiet acts of kindness, all cloaked in the professionalism that is required, means so much to so many,” Perkins added.
