Hundreds welcome Georgetown Cupcake to Buckhead Atlanta

Buckhead obviously loves cupcakes!

The first people in a line of close to 200 that stood waiting on the sidewalk for the Saturday noon opening of the new Georgetown Cupcake store at Buckhead Atlanta had arrived at 8:30 a.m. and brought their folding chairs with them.

By noon, the line wrapped around the block in front of the Capitol Grille building, at the corner of East Paces Ferry Road and Bolling Way, and that line had not gotten any shorter by 5 p.m. Oh, what people will do for a free cupcake! Free cupcakes were being handed out until 9 p.m.

But, it is no surprise that Buckhead would turn out in such numbers for the opening of Georgetown Cupcake. Buckhead has bought them for a long time and had them shipped here, because there was no store until Saturday, March 7.

Asked why Buckhead Atlanta became the site for Georgetown Cupcake’ s sixth store, co-owner Sophie Kallinis LaMontage told Buckhead View that the company ships cupcakes all over the country every day and the Atlanta market is number three or four of the cities where they ship cupcakes.

Sophie, the seemingly more outgoing of the two sister co-owners, said it just made sense to open a store here, since there was already so many people buying the product and having it shipped here. “Besides, we have members of our family who live here,” she added.

LaMontage added that she has been in the Buckhead area for the pasts couple of weeks and “I think it is a wonderful area and a great market for us.”

She also said that the Buckhead Atlanta development provided the perfect location for Georgetown Cupcake’s store in Atlanta.

Meanwhile, sister and co-owner Katherine Kallinis Berman was giving 85 percent of her attention to the opening of the store and the line-up of cupcake costumers and 10-15 percent of her time to her very young child, who also was on hand for the grand opening.

The sisters’ mother said the child was named Isis before all the recent problems erupted and she hopes it does not become a problem for the infant. After all, Isis is a next generation Georgetown Cupcake owner.

The 2,675-square-foot cupcake store, which is located at 267 East Paces Ferry Road, will offer both regular cupcake offerings as well as daily specials—all baked fresh daily. Kit will also offer coffee, tea and expresso to go with the cupcakes.

If March 7 was any indication, the new Georgetown Cupcake store will be another success story at the OliverMcMillan Buckhead Atlanta mixed-use development of retail, restaurants, office and residential opportunities.
