The goats are coming to Peachtree Heights East on Monday to gnaw park weeds

The goats are coming to the Peachtree Heights East neighborhood beginning Monday and will be gnawing their way through the overgrown scrub brush and weed-choked foliage areas of the Duck Pond Park area—of course, in an environmentally friendly manner.

Following in the footsteps of the Chastain Park Conservancy and Livable Buckhead, the Peachtree Heights East Neighborhood Association (PHENA) has hired 25 goats from Get Your Goat Rentals to clear the unhelpful foliage in the park.

Livable Buckhead Executive Director Denise Starling herds some of the goats used for the PATH400 trail work during a recent event.

The goats are scheduled to be in the park on Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 10 & 11) and possibly Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the Lower Duck Pond Park, between Potomac and Lindbergh on the east side of the creek.

It is becoming quite the rage. Chastain Park Conservancy has used goats a couple of times to clear underbrush in the park. Most recently, Livable Buckhead hired goats to clear the underbrush at Mountain Way Common park, as part of the PATH400 trail project.

PHENA is inviting everyone to come out and enjoy watching the goats do their thing. However, there is a word of caution. An electric fence will be used to contain the goats—a system similar to the effective electric fences used to contain dogs. Signs will be posted.

Enjoy the goats, but do be careful.
