Ford Fry names 2nd Buckhead restaurant St. Cecilia

    Chef Ford Fry, who recently opened the first of his new Buckhead restaurants, reportedly has selected the name St. Cecilia, the patron saint of musicians, for the second seafood-heavy Mediterranean restaurant.
    St. Cecilia is supposed to open this fall in Buckhead’s former Bluepoint space on Peachtree Road, according to Eater.com, which reported the name selection.

    Fry, who is one of the hottest new restaurateurs in Atlanta, described St. Cecilia as a combination of his restaurants No. 246 in Decatur, and The Optimist in West Midtown. Just about a month ago, he opened his latest restaurant, King + Duke, at 3050 Peachtree Road, in the former Nava location.

    The Atlanta Business Chronicle previously reported previously that Fry’s organization filed a work permit May 2 for the Bluepointe project, and that Fry planned to spend nearly $1.6 million to remake the space at The Pinnacle Building, at the corner of Peachtree and Lenox roads.

    The roughly 10,000-square-foot Bluepointe restaurant, which had dining and bar options on three levels, has sat vacant for more than a year. One of the Buckhead Life Restaurant Group Inc., Bluepointe closed at the end of 2011. Buckhead Live Group also had the Nava restaurant.

    “We are currently inspired by the coast of Europe, and plan to incorporate techniques and flavors from Italy, Spain and possibly France,” Fry has said about the cuisine of the new restaurant. “This inspiration will blend with our American heritage of sourcing ingredients locally and cooking respectfully.”

    sight lines into a wood burning hearth and even a dramatic crudo bar mounted with just harvested shellfish and seafood.”

    New York-based Meyer Davis Studio Inc. is leading the design of the restaurant. BuckheadView sat through a presentation to the Design Review Committee of SPI-12 (special public interest district) several months ago at which time is was explained that the new design would eliminate some of the multiple levels and would add an outdoor eating and drinking area on the sidewalk along Peachtree Road.

    BuckheadView did not report on that presentation because Fry’s team member asked that it be kept confidential at that time due to ongoing negotiations with the Pinnacle building ownership.

    The DRC members had a number of suggestions for Fry’s representative—especially regarding the outdoor dining area—at that time and, to BuckheadView’s knowledge, Fry and his representatives have not yet returned to the DRC to address those concerns and suggestions.
