BBA to hear Air Force vet, POW, leadership author

Colonel Leon “Lee” Ellis (USAF – Ret), founder and president of Leadership Freedom LLC® and FreedomStar Media™, will speak at the Buckhead Business Association’s Weekly Breakfast on Thursday (Sept. 13) at 7:30 a.m.at the City Club of Buckhead in the Atlanta Financial Center..

“Colonel Lee Ellis is the definition of a real American hero,” notes Catherine Cattles, 2012 President of the BBA.  “We are excited for Colonel Ellis to share the lessons about life, leadership and teamwork learned while serving more than five years as a prisoner of war (POW) in Vietnam.”

In addition to being founder and president of Leadership Freedom LLC and FreedomStar Media, Ellis is an author, leadership consultant and keynote speaker in areas of leadership, teambuilding and human behavior. 
Ellis’ past clients include Fortune 500 senior executives and C-Level leaders in telecommunications, healthcare, military, and other business sectors. As an executive coach and an expert in leadership assessments, he is a resource to senior executives and boards. 

Early in his career, Ellis served as an Air Force fighter pilot, flying 53 combat missions over North Vietnam.  In 1967, he was shot down and held as a POW for more than five years in Hanoi and surrounding camps.

For his wartime service, he was awarded two Silver Stars, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star with Valor device, the Purple Heart, and POW Medal.  Lee resumed his Air Force career, serving in leadership roles including command of a flying squadron and leadership development organizations before retiring as a colonel.

Ellis has a BA in History and a MS in Counseling and Human Development.  He is a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College and the Air War College. He has authored or co-authored four books on leadership and career development. Lee’s latest book is entitled “Leading with Honor: Leadership Lessons from the Hanoi Hilton”.

Ellis and his wife Mary reside in the Atlanta GA area and have four grown children and six

grandchildren.

The BBA Weekly Breakfast meetings are held Thursday mornings at the City Club of Buckhead, on the 18th floor of the Atlanta Financial Center, 3343 Peachtree Road in Buckhead. The meetings run from 7:30-9 a.m. Cost of attendance is $10 for BBA members and $20 for visitors and guests. Parking is free with a validated parking ticket.
